Behold your mother!

 

“He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” - John 19:26

 

Third verse Jesus said when He was on the cross 

The words Jesus spoke when He was hanging on the cross had more meaning in it. When someone is about to die, he will handover his family's responsibilities to his families. To wife is he is a father, to the eldest son if he had too many children and to look after them. In the same way, Our Lord Jesus Christ gave the responsibility to maintain his widowed mother to John the disciple He loved. He completed whatever Father told Him to do in thirty three and half years in this world. We can see that He carefully took care of the responsibilities He had in His family amidst horrible agony. 

 

Mary was very fortunate, that this occasion has happened only to her in this whole world. She was fortunate to carry the Son of man Jesus in her womb and raise Him up. According to the prophesy "a sword will pierce through your own soul also" Jesus was hanging on the cross but she wept for the unsightly sight she saw. Weather Mary thought "who is going to care for me", but amidst all the agony Jesus was thoughtful about that. When Jesus was crucified, most of His disciples fled. John was standing near Mary. He handed over Mary to him because John was leaning on Jesus' bosom so he know the burden in His heart. Jesus is the role model for this world to take care of their parents. 

 

My dear! We have this responsibility. We must fulfil that. In this modern era, people migrate to distant lands for their children, marriage or job. They don't accept the fact that taking care of parents is a blessing. Some get their share of inheritance and forget them completely. The only commandment that has blessing in it is "Honour thy father and thy mother". Let us follow the example Jesus left us and live as a blessed generation.
