Daily Devotion (English) – 25.05.2023

 

“Truly my soul waiteth upon God: from him cometh my salvation” - Psalms 62:1

 

Once a famous preacher Henry Ward Beecher was invited to preach in a big church, but he couldn't go there due to some unavoidable circumstances. So his brother went there to preach. The church was filled with people. But having a great preaching skill, once its announced that he is not preaching people started to go from church. But his brother wasn't tired of it. He stood before the murmuring crowd to say "those who came here to worship Beecher can go out of the church. Those remaining can sit here and worship God". 

 

What do we do in our worship? Do we seek God in preachers expecting what does God say through that preacher? Or do we grade sermons as super, okay, bad? Or do we hope that God will speak through famous preachers? If we have such thoughts, we will leave with lot of mistakes about the sermon to speak about. 

 

I know a preacher and he has the gift to preach with authority and warning. Once a woman came to him after the sermon to say, " sir the sermon was wonderful". He suddenly asked "did you obey?" Yea It is more important to obey to the gospel that looking at who is the preacher or how is he reaching? 

 

My dear! Do you want to serve the living God? If yes sing songs by realising the meaning. Believe that God is speaking to me through the verse I read. Listen closely to the announcements and pray for that functions happening that week, daily pray for couples about to be married that week. Instead of holding personal pride by saying this warning is not for me but for others, because Iam not like that, just obey to the Bible verse. Those who come to church with such thoughts can realise the true worth of worships.
