Glory

 

“Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envy one another” - Galatians 5:26

 

A monthly magazine was published a few years ago, it had a missionary biography in it, it went like this. London missionary society transferred a new missionary to its field in South Africa. That missionary family reached south Africa on ship and he was given special welcome by the believers from that field. They were welcomed by playing musical instruments, showered flowers on him and danced. The previous missionary saw this and envied it. His heart started lamenting. He thought, I started this field, I roamed the forest, mountains and brought these people into faith. After all that where is my glory? These thoughts made him slide back. 

 

My dear! If we expect people to glorify us, or think about having social status, the Bible is giving us good advice. "Search their own glory is not glory." ( Proverbs 25:27). " Nobody noticed me, how hard did I work for this thing to happen and they are ungrateful" envying like that is not good before God. When you expect people to glorify you for the good deeds you did, you have received the price from the goodness from the people.

 

God doesn't permit Him to reward that. In the same way, your mind shouldn't burn when others are being praised. Whatever the results of envy is sin. So don't do anything expecting to be praised. If your heart doesn't side with praise, God will reward you in this earth and in the afterlife.
