Is it to Lord? Or for human?
"…When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites;…” - Matthew 6:5
Once upon a time there happened for a missionary named Bhagat Singh to stay with a Christian family,. Every morning and evening regular family prayers were offered in that house. The servants also took part in it. So, the missionary was happy to see this family. But one day one of the servants said, "Family prayers are held only when guests come to the house. They are not held after they leave." God will not approve any of such spiritual activity that you do to please any men. Because the intention is wrong!
Because God knows the thoughts of the heart of man, who is proud, crooked and loves fame. He warns us by writing each and every thing specifically in the Bible. Every human heart wishes that people should see their good deeds and appreciate them. But we Christians, also wish that men to see what we pray. How pitiful spiritual life do we lead? If we have this kind of thinking, will the Lord be in front of our mind during our prayer time? Or the people around you in that prayer group? If the Lord is there, there will be no empty words, no more rhetoric, no embellished words in that prayer. Only the soul cries out to God. No thought for the people around.
How does God teaches us to pray? When you pray, go into your room, lock the door, and look to your Father who is in private. "Your Father who sees inwardly will reward you openly." This is what God expects. However, we must be careful not to become proud of this kind of private prayer. There is nothing wrong in saying it humbly, but if we say it with the intention that "I pray alone in the room to make it known to people," that is also a deception of the devil.
Beloved! We should not exalt ourselves before men. The Bible says, "He who praises himself is not righteous, but he who is praised by the Lord is righteous." (2 Cor. 10:18) Which side do you stand?
Do you pray to God or for men?
