Jharkhand
"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit" - John 12:24
Jharkhand is a newly formed state that was carved out of Bihar. Similar to Bihar, which is known as the "graveyard of missionaries", Jharkhand was also seen as an extremely challenged place for evangelism. Rather than the resistance among the people of Jharkhand, the great challenge was the unsanitary conditions in Jharkhand where every missionary who went to spread gospel fell sick and died. At one point, no one came forward to go to the ministry at Jharkhand due to fear of death. More than 3 lakhs of tribal people called Malto were living in this state.
In an evening meeting held in a tail end village of Tamil Nadu, a man accepted Jesus. The man who accepted Jesus devoted himself to do missionary work. At the beginning, he served as a missionary in Dharmapuri district for a few years. Then he heard about the Maldo people of Jharkhand and got the burden for the souls over there, so expressed his desire to go there as a missionary to his ministry head. Amidst many struggles, he started serving in Jharkhand state with his wife and children as a family. There was no progress in the ministry, as he had expected. He went to serve out of love for that people. They’re raised protests against his missionary ministry and the opponents left him half dead. Undeterred, he continued to do missionary work. At one point he and his son died like grain of wheat among the same Maldo people, suffering from malarial fever.
At his burial service, many of the mountain villagers to whom he had wandered and ministered had seen a vision of Jesus standing and shedding tears. The missionary's name is Jayaraj. He has built 116 churches among the Maldo people. A missionary named Jayaraj planted himself in the ground as a seed of wheat to see a large harvest among the Maldo people. After him, a missionary named Stan Avery served among these people as a team and built many churches. Let us praise God for the missionaries who have given themselves sacrificially so that today eight percent of Christians are found in a state where there were no Christians at all. Let's inspire the next generation to proclaim Jesus to unknown places.
