Salty, light

 

"Ye are the salt of the earth:…" - Matthew 5:13

 

The Sermon on the Mount consists of 111 verses in three chapters. There were many who accepted Jesus through the message of the Sermon on the Mount. Today is the memorial day of the father of our nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi was also very impressed with the message of Lord Jesus' Sermon on the Mount.

 

Gandhi was fond of reading and following the Holy Bible. But Gandhi did not want salvation and repentance. Seeing this, his friend and senior missionary who served in India, Nusa. Stanley Jones asked Gandhi this way. "Why do you reject Christ?"

 

He replied, "I don't reject Jesus. I love Jesus very much. But Christians who follow him don't live according to his teachings? Then why should I accept Christianity?" Stanley Jones also shared with them his bitter experiences among Christians in England and South Africa. Jesus is good. But he clearly answered that his followers were contradictory.

 

In Matthew chapter 5 verses 13 and 14 we read like this. You are the salt of the earth. We read that you are the light of the world. There are many who leave Jesus because of the wrong behaviour of Christians who are supposed to live a life of witness as salt and light. Among them, Gandhi read today is one of them. Dear Christians reading this message! Every action we take can either lead others to Christ or lead them away from Christ. So let us not only be hearers of the Word but also doers of it. Lord be gracious.
