Martyr Philip
“And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel” - Hebrews 12:24
Old Testament prophets from Abel to Zechariah were killed. Abel's blood speaks even today. The blood of the martyrs will speak! It is by their drops of blood that churches and Christianity grow. James, the first disciple in the New Testament, died as the first martyr. Philip was one of the 12 disciples in this line. Let's see about him.
The apostle Philip was from the town of Bethsaida. The Greek word Philip means horse. He did not seek Christ, Christ called him. When he saw Philip, he called him, "Follow me." (John 1:43) Philip was found to be searching and knowing all things. He was an instrument to bring his friend Nathan to Christ. (John 1:45) When Philip was caught in the hands of the killers in the last days, they tied him to the cross and stoned him to death. Seeing his sacrificial love of Jesus Christ, Philip agreed to die as a martyr.
Are we a witness to those around us? Are we sharing Jesus Christ? Are Our words and actions seen as such. Let's think about it. Knowing the Lord's love, can we be idle? Let us come forward to do what we can for Christ. Realizing that our churches are built on the blood of many martyrs, let us commit ourselves to a sacrificed life.
