The one who is near

Let us pray

“If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” – John 15:7

John Wesley was a revival warrior from England. In his days, godly and pious women gathered at a bush, away from the city and prayed there regularly. That place was converted into prayer tabernacle for them to meet and pray together to God. John Wesley had heard about the testimonies of those women about the place as the one that was filled with God’s presence and glory and they could feel it immensely. So, they were led to a rare heavenly experience. But John Wesley did not believe their testimonies. In his later years when he was touched by God and received salvation, he had the inner urge to go to the same place for praying. That prayer tabernacle was filled with God’s presence and John Wesley could feel it immensely. This could be possible because of the incessant prayer offered in that place. 

As the site for a future temple, King David chose the threshing floor of Araunah in Jerusalem which is associated with Mount Moriah. That was where the angel of the Lord appeared to David. He built an altar to the Lord and dedicated it to God. Gethsemane, the garden at the foot of the Mount Olive was chosen by Jesus to spend time alone and to pray to God. He frequently preferred quiet wilderness and prayed alone or with disciples at dawn and night. He was strengthened and emboldened by the Holy Spirit to do God’s will when he was praying alone in Gethsemane.

Dear friends, we can also choose a particular place for praying. The power is not in the place. When we pray regularly and fervently in the same place, God comes there to meet us. So, we can feel His glorious presence while praying. Magnetic power is felt in the field around a magnet. Even after the sales of the fragrant flowers, the sweet fragrance of the flowers remains in the area for a long time. In the same way the glorious presence of God will ascend abundantly in the place where we gather and pray. Hallelujah.
