Pebble speaks
“…the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are,” – 1 Corinthians 1:28
Hello, sweet darlings, are you all happy? Where are you looking? Look down and see me. I am a pebble who is speaking. Do you think what the pebble is going to tell you? Please listen to me for some time.
My family, friends and myself are found on beaches and river banks and by the side of brooks. We were stones but rolled and rolled by the action of water and sand and we have become smooth and round. When we are lying on the sea or river side, many people walk on us. Some of them pick us up and admire our smoothness and the shape and throw us back into the water. Some people collect us for using us as pellets for shooting birds and fruits with a slingshot. In the ancient days the shepherds used to have us always in their sling bag for driving out the wild animals that came to attack the sheep. The talk of the pebble is quite interesting, isn’t it? Hey, pebble why have you stopped in between? Please continue your story.
One day a young shepherd named David came near the brook where we were lying. He picked me and four of my friends and put us into his sling bag. We wondered how we were going to be helpful to him. We were talking about our journey from the open air into shepherd’s bag. Suddenly we heard a loud cry. The ground was shaking. There appeared a big giant named Goliath. He looked at David and said, “Come to me and I will give your flesh to the birds of the air and the beast of the field.” Then only we realized that it was a battle field. We were worried how young David was going to encounter the huge giant. You know what David did! Declaring that he was not coming with a sword or spear but in the name of the Lord of hosts whom he had defied, he put his hand in the bag and took out only me because the others rolled away. He slung me and struck Goliath in his forehead and so I sank into his forehead and he fell on his face to the earth. The men of Israel rejoiced over the great deliverance. Without any weapon just with one strike with an ordinary pebble God gave him great victory. It is not a story. This is a real incident. It is written in the book of 1Samuel 17th chapter in the Holy Bible.
Kids, people may say that we do not have any talent and we know nothing. But when we give ourselves into the hands of God, He will use us as vessels that bring joy to our parents, relatives and others just like the pebble.
